Product details
The Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) is considered one of the classics of the 20th century. He became world-famous for his buildings in Brasília, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. In 1988, he received the Pritzker Prize. In his buildings, he combines respect for the local context with a distinctive, almost baroque design impulse. For the second updated edition of this publication, the preface, biography, and catalog of works have been revised. Additionally, individual contributions from renowned authors analyze important and current aspects of Niemeyer's work that remain relevant today. Topics include the positioning of his work within the history of modern architecture in Brazil, his contributions as an urban planner, the incorporation of landscape in his oeuvre, and his influence on architecture in Germany.
