The Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) is considered one of the classics of the 20th century. He became world-famous for his buildings in Brasília, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. In 1988, he received the Pritzker Prize. In his buildings, he combines respect for the local context with a distinctive, almost baroque design impulse. For the second updated edition of this publication, the preface, biography, and catalog of works have been revised.
