Product details
Oskar Zwintscher (1870–1916), a much-discussed artist during his lifetime straddling Art Nouveau and Symbolism, must today be regarded as a rediscovery across Germany. An interdisciplinary research project at the Albertinum in Dresden comprehensively addresses this need. The museum holds one of the largest collections of Zwintscher's paintings. Extensive analyses of his painting techniques allow for a nuanced understanding of the creation of his works. The completion of their compositions was often achieved through surprisingly experimental changes during the painting process. Remarkable findings of previously unknown text and image documents support the reevaluation of his oeuvre in historical and art historical contexts. The book offers essential contributions to the biography and visual explorations of one of the most fascinating artists of the Fin de Siècle.
