Product details
Even over twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a societal discourse still dominates that focuses on the social, political, mental, and cultural differences between East and West Germans. In this context, East Germans from different generations and groups attempt to convey their own experiences in dealing with the GDR. The contributions in this volume examine the mutual interpenetration of lived history, memory, narrative, and identity construction: How are individual and collective experiences processed in the stories about the former GDR? Sociologists, ethnologists, and scholars of culture, art, and literature combine their own methods with current findings from narratology as well as memory and remembrance research.
