Overcoming poverty is one of the longstanding global issues. For decades, this has been attempted primarily through state measures, initially referred to as development aid, and later as development cooperation. This shift reflects the idea that development can only emerge from the impoverished societies themselves. Hans-Gert Braun advocates for a different strategy: the dynamization of the economy can succeed through a social market economy, an integral administration, and a focus on intermediate technologies. The national self-financing of this strategy is possible if capital is no longer wasted as it has been in the past. Development cooperation plays only a supplementary role.
