Strange stories and surprising facts from the most orthodox empire in history. This is the first book of its kind in world history and the second in the history of the world's most orthodox empire.

Summary
Byzantium has long been viewed by many as a great curiosity - decadent, degenerate, superstitious, theocratic, effeminate. With its stories and anecdotes spanning religion, bureaucracy, food, theater, medicine, xenophobia, and warfare, this book offers a unique perspective.
