The Fundamentals of Iaidô

Iaidô is the art of drawing the sword to immediately put an end to an opponent's attack with a single movement, regardless of whether the attack has actually begun or is only recognizable as a mental intention. In this work, French martial arts master Roland Habersetzer provides a fundamental text on the art of Iaid. It includes a comprehensive introduction to the history and practice of the Japanese swordsmanship, a detailed graphic and verbal representation of the ceremony (reishiki), the basic techniques (kihon), and the twelve forms currently practiced in Zen Nippon Kendô Renmei Iai (Seitei-Iai), as well as an additional graphic representation of nine series from the Tenshin Shôden Katori Shintô-ryû.
