Paranoia is generally regarded not only as a clinical condition but also as a distinctive way of perceiving the world. This volume includes studies on paranoia in literary and cultural history, ranging from the 19th century to the present. It is based on Jacques Lacan's assertion that there is no paranoia, only paranoiacs. The authors do not contribute to an essentialization or pathologization of paranoia; instead, they aim to achieve a more precise description of the processes of paranoid world interpretation, starting from specific individual cases.
