Product details
The brothers Ernst Schmidt (1914-1990) and Albert Schmidt (1923-2007) are two important figures in Swiss civil engineering. Starting from Ernst's Bureau for Construction Design and Structural Model Testing, which he established in 1948, they founded the company E. und A. Schmidt, Engineers, in Basel in 1955. This new, large-format book traces the family and company history for the first time and presents the engineering achievements of the two brothers. Lavishly illustrated with numerous large-format plans, technical drawings, and extensive photographic material, the book is a visual delight for all those interested in engineering. Special attention is given to bridge construction, in which the Schmidt brothers made pioneering contributions through the so-called cantilever construction method. The technical and structural aspects are explained through the numerous bridges they oversaw as engineers.
