The architect Frank Geiser (born 1935) is one of the most prominent representatives of Swiss steel construction. After completing an apprenticeship as a building draftsman, he studied from 1956 at the legendary Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm, where Max Bill, Otl Aicher, and Konrad Wachsmann were among his teachers. Influenced by the theory and practice of industrial construction with its radical reduction and clear design, he created a body of work that begins with a highly regarded small office cube in Bern and reaches its culmination in the campus of the Bern Vocational School and in a sculptural residential and office building in Spiegel near Bern. Richly illustrated with photographs and plans, the first comprehensive monograph on Frank Geiser also addresses all the topics that concern architecture in the second half of the 20th century: urban planning, the history of steel and glass construction since 1960, and architectural theory.
