Product details

The Vienna-born architect Franz Kiener, who was born in 1926, is part of that generation of Austrian architects trained by Clemens Holzmeister, who found their architectural stance in the new spirit of post-war modernism. His buildings, influenced by Konrad Wachsmann, are characterized by themes such as grid planning, modular ordering systems, and prefabrication. Among Kiener's works, the administrative building of EVN, constructed in collaboration with Wilhelm Hubatsch and Gustav Peichl in Vienna's southern district (1963), and the model school built with Ferdinand Kitt in Tyrol (1970) stand out. Beginning with the renovation of the Karl-Marx-Hof in Vienna (1989), he also engaged extensively with the topic of urban renewal. A multitude of single-family homes reflects his successfully conducted dialogue with clients. This first monographic publication about Franz Kiener presents his life and work.
