Product details

In 1985, Rolf Mühlethaler founded his own architectural office in Bern. Over three decades, he has created a wide range of buildings for private and public clients, including single-family homes, apartment buildings, studios, school buildings, office buildings, and conversions of historical buildings. For the large housing project Freilager Zurich, he designed three residential towers and longhouses in timber construction. Mühlethaler's designs exhibit integrative conceptual thinking that respects local and historical references. Structure, clarity, rhythm, and symmetry characterize his buildings. The multi-layered order of a project with many different participants is fragile; idea, planning, and execution can easily lose their consistency of content. This book discusses central aspects of Mühlethaler's architectural work: building in existing contexts, metier and education, structure and construction, and urbanism.
