Product details
"Smooth! Manifesto for a City in the Making" takes the development of the Zurich agglomeration belt Glatttal as a starting point to illustrate the main danger facing Switzerland: ongoing urban sprawl. How can landscapes be preserved? By clearly distinguishing between urban and rural spaces—achieving greater density in urban areas, combined with a wider variety of uses, leading to a new, contemporary type of city. This does not require designing model cities from scratch or on a blank slate, but rather purposefully developing existing places, infrastructures, industrial and service zones, and complementing them with the missing functions. This requires committed overarching planning and the adaptation of building laws and guidelines. Thus, density and the preservation of nature could be the key.
