Spatial perception, the relationship between space and light, and the theme of materiality are the central focal points of the Institute for Spatial Design at the Technical University of Graz. Divided into three thematic chapters - Space, Material, and Light - this new book demonstrates, on both theoretical and applied levels, how and through what means built space is constituted and becomes effective. At the core is the question of architectural translation, which is always closely linked to specific spatial ideas and encompasses atmospheric information. The text contributions explore questions of spatial perception, both in a historical context and from a theoretical perspective regarding the different modes of perception available to us, which influence the observation, understanding, and thus the production of space.
