Product details

The Superblock is the work of the architectural office Krischanitz, which emerged as the winner from the test planning for the repurposing of the former industrial buildings on the Sulzer site in Winterthur. The development continues an urban scale and thus a spatial structure whose origin lies in the existing form of the industrial area. Composed of existing and new building parts and open spaces, the Superblock houses the city administration of Winterthur, offices of AXA Winterthur, as well as residential units. The newly created courtyard serves as the central element and programmatic focus. Also integrated into the project is the preserved founder's house of the Sulzer company from 1834. This building monograph comprehensively documents the Superblock. Photographs, numerous plans, and drawings narrate the development of the area into the current building complex. In an interview, Adolf Krischanitz clarifies the architectural concept and provides insights into the work process, revealing the architect's intentions. A text on the dynamic history of the Sulzer site and how the current building engages with these historical circumstances rounds off the book.
