Product details

Roswitha Mair's biography reveals the life and work of one of the most significant artists of the 20th century. Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889-1943), born in Davos, learned to weave carpets at the École des arts décoratifs in St. Gallen, studied expressive dance with Rudolf Labahn in Munich, and later danced with Mary Wigman on Monte Verità and with the Dadaists at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich. She taught for many years at an art school, designed interior decorations, and worked as an architect. In her painting, she engaged in various ways with the composition of form and color and published her own magazines. As a representative of Concrete Art, she moved quietly among her artist friends, including such diverse characters as Hugo Ball, Emmy Hennings, Tristan Tzara, Claire and Yvan Goll, Max Ernst, Piet Mondrian, Theo van Doesburg, and Kurt Schwitters.
