The psychoanalyst Catherine Millot recounts her life alongside Jacques Lacan between 1972 and 1981, during his final years. The book was awarded the Prix André Gide in France in 2016. Catherine Millot is around thirty when she meets and falls in love with the seventy-year-old Lacan. From the very beginning, their relationship is marked by travel: to Rome, Venice, Barcelona, Budapest, Beirut, Tirana, and London, attending Lacan's congresses and lectures. He rushes through all the museums and churches, drives at top speed, ignores red lights, and overtakes cars stuck in traffic on the shoulder. When skiing, there are only downhill runs. He only goes to restaurants where he is known and not made to wait. Millot is particularly fascinated by the intensity that characterizes Lacan's personality, his desire that seems to express itself directly.
