The media bombards us with the idea that the greatest danger today is intolerant (ethnic, religious, sexist...) fundamentalism, which can only be fought with a consistent stance. But is this idea so self-evident? Is the prevailing form of multicultural tolerance not much less innocent than it seems? After all, it allows for the depoliticization of the economy. This multiculturalism is based on the belief that we live in a post-ideological world, where the oppositions between left and right have been overcome and the main conflicts are those concerning the recognition of different life concepts. But could one not see in this idea the ideology of current global capitalism? Perhaps it is necessary to criticize the multicultural stance from the left and advocate for a new politics.
