Product details

When Jacques Rancière invites us on short journeys into the land of the people, the program does not feature a folkloric idyll, but rather a reconsideration of the relationships between images and knowledge, utopia and reality, literature and politics. Wordsworth, the poet of the lakes, traverses the French Revolution, while Büchner encounters a pilgrim of the Saint-Simonian utopia. Michelet and Rilke dream of a reconciled life in the presence of a maid or a worker, while the proletarians dream of the South Seas and even embark on whale hunts there. On screen, Ingrid Bergman embodies the worldly woman who discovers the other side of society. In these short journeys, Rancière invites us to rethink the relationships between images and knowledge, utopia and reality, literature and politics.
