Product details
The first volume begins with letters from the time before C. G. Jung's separation from the psychoanalytic school, including letters to Karl Abraham, Sandor Ferenczi, Sigmund Freud, and other members of Freud's circle at that time. Additionally, there are letters from Jung to his then eight-year-old daughter Marianne, to Hermann Hesse, Count Keyserling (including some interesting dream interpretations), to Rudolf Pannwitz, James Joyce, and Alfred Kubin. Letters to theologians and pastors explain Jung's psychological standpoint in relation to the standpoint of faith. Other letters reflect impressions and insights that Jung gained during his travels to Africa, India, and America. Also mentioned are letters to the Indologist Heinrich Zimmer, the Sinologist Richard Wilhelm, and the myth researcher Karl Kerenyi, as well as to his friend, the Basel editor Albert Oeri. A letter taken from a wide-ranging correspondence to the physicist Wolfgang Pauli discusses the problem of clairvoyance raised by Pascual Jordan, and a letter dated shortly thereafter to Pauli himself addresses the relationship between physics and psychology and the concept of synchronicity. The correspondence with the parapsychologist J.B. Rhine is of fundamental importance. A large number of letters to unnamed correspondents and questioners rounds out the volume.
