Product details

This volume is a collection of Jung's works on childhood psychology. The centerpiece consists of three lectures on analytical psychology and education. Jung considers the psychology of parents and educators to be decisive in the growth and maturation process, particularly in the case of the unusually gifted. He emphasizes the importance of an unsatisfactory psychological relationship between parents as a cause of psychogenic disorders in childhood. It was therefore natural to include Jung's essay "Marriage as a Psychological Relationship" and to connect the issues of childhood with those of the self-realization of the adult. Thus, the essay "On the Development of Personality" has been added, which – by title and content – constitutes the theme of this book. The still widespread prejudice that Jung's psychology pertains only to the second half of life or is valid exclusively for this period is refuted here. In a time when all educational principles are being questioned, every reader dealing with educational issues will find Jung's contributions beneficial. Educating others without self-education is as unattainable as human maturity without awareness. Jung's entire work could be described in terms of its content as a phenomenology, comparative morphology, and mythology of the functional soul. It reaches into the widest expanses and deepest depths to recognize, grasp, and guide the soul through its critical stagnations and transformations via its imagery. Rudolf Pannwitz.
