A radiant picture book debut about a young girl in the Philippines who, after a typhoon, helps her community return a neighbor's roof. Typhoons are a regular part of Maya's life in the Philippines, but after this storm, she finds something unusual in her garden – a roof! It has an address on it, and Maya is determined to return it to its family. She needs help navigating the damage left by the typhoon. Together with her Tatay, Maya sets out and collaborates with a farmer and his water buffalo, a few fishermen and their boat, a shoemaker, a laundress, a cook, and other neighbors. Together, they sail around tangled roots, drag, lift, push, and pull the roof until they find the family – and begin to rebuild their community.
