Information about the Author

Osamu Tezuka was born on November 3, 1928, in Toyonaka, Osaka, Japan, and grew up in Takarazuka, Hyogo Prefecture. He graduated from Osaka University with a degree in medicine and later earned a doctorate in medicine.

In 1946, Tezuka made his debut as a manga artist with the work Ma-Chan's Diary, and in 1947, he achieved his first major success with New Treasure Island. Over more than forty years as a cartoonist, Tezuka produced over 150,000 pages of manga, including creations such as Metropolis, Mighty Atom (also known as Astro Boy), Jungle Emperor (also known as Kimba the White Lion), Black Jack, Phoenix, Buddha, and many more.

Tezuka's fascination with Disney cartoons led him to establish his own animation studio and create the first serialized Japanese animated series, which was later exported to America.
