Information about the Author
Françoise Mouly joined The New Yorker as an art editor in April 1993. She is the publisher and editor of TOON Books, an imprint of Candlewick Press. In 1980, Ms. Mouly co-founded, published, designed, and co-edited the groundbreaking comic anthology 'RAW' with her husband Art Spiegelman, which featured artists such as Charles Burns, Sue Coe, Chris Ware, Xavier Mariscal, and many others. During her time at The New Yorker, Ms. Mouly was responsible for over 900 covers, many of which were awarded 'Best Cover of the Year' by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME). Born in Paris, Françoise Mouly studied architecture at the Beaux Arts and moved to New York in 1974. In 2011, Ms. Mouly was awarded the highest French honor, the Legion of Honor. She and her husband live in Manhattan.
