Product details
Penguin Readers is an ELT-Graded Reader series for learners of English as a foreign language. With carefully adapted text, new illustrations, and language exercises, the print edition also includes instructions for accessing supporting materials online.
The titles encompass popular classics, exciting contemporary fiction, and thought-provoking non-fiction that familiarize language learners with bestselling authors and engaging content.
The eight levels of Penguin Readers align with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Exercises at the end of each reader help language learners practice grammar, vocabulary, and essential exam skills. Questions before, during, and after reading test comprehension of the story and expand vocabulary.
The Puffin Keeper, a Level 2 reader, corresponds to A1+ in the CEFR framework. The sentences contain a maximum of two subordinate clauses and introduce the future forms "will" and "going to," the present continuous with future meaning, as well as comparatives and superlatives. It is well-supported by illustrations that appear on most pages.
Exclusively with the print edition, readers can unlock online resources, including a digital book, an audio edition, lesson plans, and answer keys.
Five-year-old Allen Williams arrives on Puffin Island and meets an old man, Benjamin Postlewaite. Ben is the lighthouse keeper, and Allen soon becomes his friend. Many years later, Allen returns to the island and discovers that Ben has a puffin. Allen helps Ben transition from lighthouse keeper to puffin keeper.
