A wolf trots through the Märkische landscape. He has brought back prey for his family; the pups are already in need of meat and are pushing out of the den. Only Schwarzohr, the smallest pup, seems weak, and the mother senses that he needs her more than his stronger siblings. One day, Schwarzohr gets lost during an outing. The wolf cub suddenly finds himself alone in an unfamiliar world. Joki is supposed to be unpacking moving boxes, but instead, he prefers to roam around in the forest. On his very first excursion, he makes a discovery: a wolf lives in the woods! The boy first observes the wolf and soon after the entire pack. The wolves notice Joki too, but they sense that he poses no threat. However, when Joki encounters the lost pup, he takes him along, inadvertently luring the pack into dangerous proximity to humans. Joki begins to understand what is happening.
