Product details
The techniques for leather production and processing in ancient Egypt are explored through representations of leather craftsmanship and explained in comparison with traditional European and African crafts. The tools and equipment used in this process are identified and assigned to specific work processes. In the second part of the work, the author examines the individuals involved in leather craftsmanship, their job titles and positions, as well as the social context, through sociological questions. The third part presents hides and leather in terms of their use, prices, and value; the products made from them are thematically listed, and where sufficient evidence exists, a typology is created, occasionally demonstrating symbolic significance. The work is completed with a three-part catalog.
