To address the theological problem of New Testament pseudepigrapha, this study presents an approach derived from the biblical category of memory or anamnesis. The analysis of the hermeneutical and theological significance of this category and its use in the Second Letter of Peter leads to the following thesis: The pseudonymous author brings to mind the salvation-historical situation of the Apostle Peter in the anamnesis, simultaneously identifying with him and taking his place anamnetically. Thus, pseudepigraphy is not only 'remembered tradition' but also a 'means of anamnesis.' Through an anamnetic text interpretation, authorship and the letter can therefore be understood as expressions of anamnetic apostolicity.
