This book was awarded the Dissertation Prize of the University Association for Geography and its Didactics at the German Geographers' Day 2007 in Bayreuth. Migration, racism, integration - societal and global tensions suggest intensified debates about the image and treatment of the foreign. The book addresses this development in the field of education against racism. Does it achieve its goal? Various explanatory approaches from psychology, sociology, and political science are presented. Furthermore, it examines whether and how concepts of global learning, intercultural pedagogy, and anti-racist education reference this issue. It reveals a limited theoretical reception in intercultural practice, reduced to a psycho-social understanding of problems. Quantitative and qualitative content analyses of geographical textbooks demonstrate that by omitting structural aspects, intercultural practice in school geography tends towards the culturalization and alienation of political-economic differences.
