The present volume of the series "New German-American Studies" discusses the life story of August Rauschenbusch, a native of Westphalia, and applies common methods of German-American and transatlantic historiography to explore the fate of a German emigrant to America in the 19th century. August Rauschenbusch migrated to Missouri in 1846 as a Protestant missionary and later held a respected position as a professor and trainer of preachers at a German-speaking theological seminary in New York State. Through his examination of the biography of a German theologian and individual emigrant, the author brings to light forgotten or largely neglected areas of research in German-American history.
