Augustine likely delivered eight thousand sermons and more during his nearly forty years of pastoral work. Less than ten percent of these have been preserved, yet this fraction alone constitutes about 17% of his surviving works. Augustine's preaching activity was therefore significantly more extensive than all of his other writings combined. These figures highlight the true dimensions of Augustine's influence, which are often overlooked in favor of his philosophical and theological treatises. The seventh volume of the first German-language complete edition of the sermons presents four sermons on the Gospel of Mark, two of which have been translated into German for the first time. The text printed en face provides the foundational edition of the Mauriners, critically compared with later editions and noting the differences. The introductions and annotations explain what is necessary for the contextualization and understanding of the texts: authenticity, transmission, chronology, structure, style, historical data, theology, and liturgy. A particular focus is placed on the evidence of biblical thought.
