Research on youth language and identity in German-speaking countries has, to this day, woefully neglected the female gender. This work addresses this research gap and provides insights into the everyday conversations of a group of adolescent girls based on an extensive corpus. The empirical investigation focuses on the interactive constitution of group identity and gender identity among the girls through their differentiation from various 'Others'. What social categories (Britneys, HipHoppers, etc.) do the girls consider relevant in their conversations, and what linguistic means do they use in this context? Through ethnographic conversation analysis, these and other questions are explored to ultimately document what it means to be a 'completely normal' teenage girl at the beginning of the new millennium.
