Product details

For several years, the media representation of aging has been critically assessed from various perspectives. The portrayal of age in children's and youth literature is sometimes viewed as realistic, while at other times it is considered unrealistic. Despite the differing opinions on this matter, they all share a common issue: an inadequate or absent consideration of the actual living conditions of older people. This study fills that gap and sets new standards. First, it comprehensively examines various life areas of older individuals based on findings from gerontology. Subsequently, these life realities are compared with their representation in German-speaking children's and youth books. Differences and innovations compared to previous studies are highlighted. Due to its interdisciplinary approach, the study is of great value to anyone interested in gerontology as well as children's and youth literature.
