Product details

This work examines the path of the National People's Army (NVA) towards German unity through documents, literature, and interviews: To what extent was there a threat of armed action against its own people? What effects did military reform and mutinies have? Free elections and the new Minister for Disarmament and Defense, Rainer Eppelmann, gave the NVA cadres false hope. How did misunderstandings arise between the German defense ministers? On October 2, 1990, the NVA was dissolved. Personnel and equipment were handed over to the Federal Minister of Defense. The Bundeswehr Command East facilitated the restructuring of the Bundeswehr in the former GDR. Was there a merger of two armies into one army of unity? What interactions occurred between the withdrawal of former Soviet troops and the establishment of the Bundeswehr? How far can the traces of the NVA be traced in the Bundeswehr reforms?.
