Product details
In the early 16th century, the Franconian knight Michel von Ehenheim compiled a family book that serves as an important testimony to the social and cultural history of the late medieval lower nobility. His records cover numerous aspects of noble lifestyles: the family's lineage and kinship, information about his own life history (including military campaigns in the Netherlands and Hungary, tournaments, and court events, etc.), and discussions about the noble land of Franconia. Michel von Ehenheim, who settled in Würzburg in 1506, also provides insight into his relationships with the urban environment. A commented edition of the source is presented; the introductory study explores the social self-interpretation and self-understanding of the author.
