This comparative reception history of July 20 aims to analyze the intertwining of society and the military in the young Federal Republic up to 1959. This can be exemplified through a theme that challenges both military and civilians like no other, and which was uncomfortable from the outset due to the painful confrontation with one's own inability to resist.
