Product details

For more than a hundred years, the solution to the synoptic problem has primarily been viewed through the lens of the Two-Source Hypothesis, according to which the evangelists Matthew and Luke use the canonical Gospel of Mark as a foundation, into which they incorporate the sayings source Q in various ways. However, this rough model does not adequately account for the over a thousand significant and minor parallel agreements between Matthew and Luke in relation to Mark, which indicate that the Gospel of Mark was already linguistically revised and expanded with various materials, especially sayings, before them. Accordingly, this second edition - and not Mark - serves as the basis for Matthew and Luke. Additionally, even Deutero-Mark has utilized part of the Q material, meaning it cannot be understood as a unified document. Thus, the developmental history of the Synoptics must be significantly revised, leading to a more nuanced understanding of early Christian history.
