The preservation of monuments is essential for maintaining a dignified existence. This work addresses the legal complexities of monument protection in Italy and Germany, providing a comprehensive overview of the topic. Through a comparative analysis, it highlights, examines, and also controversially discusses the differences and similarities in monument protection between the two countries. In Germany, the focus will primarily be on the legal situation in North Rhine-Westphalia. To properly contextualize today's regulations, the work also includes a brief overview of the historical development of monument protection in Germany and Italy.
