Product details
The Orpheus myth is of great significance in all arts and therefore for all humanities. It is particularly important in music and its history: it marks the beginning of the transmission of the newly invented genre of opera in the year 1600. Since then, it has held an unusual attraction for composers of the music-drama genre and continues to do so today. In the summer semester of 2003, a public lecture series on this topic took place at the University of Hamburg, featuring contributions from scholars in the disciplines of philosophy, classical philology, German studies, Romance studies, Italian studies, art history, and musicology, with a total of 10 presentations.
