The work is based on an empirical study of the attitudes of young Germans towards speakers with an East Slavic accent. It aimed to capture the relative importance of a speaker's pronunciation and grammar for the attitude towards them. Factors such as the gender of the speakers and the participants, as well as the educational background of the latter, were taken into account during the analysis. The predicted effect that poorer pronunciation or grammar would lead to a lower evaluation of the speaker's personal qualities could only be demonstrated for a portion of the participants. Furthermore, a highly significant correlation was found between the assessment of a speaker's overall expression and the evaluation of their personal qualities.
