In times of the European Union and the simplified mobility within Europe, it is very important to pay attention to one's language use: regionally marked words complicate communication, especially for learners of a foreign language, as they are learned in an uncontrolled manner. Although the standard language of Germany is considered supra-regional and supra-national, it deviates from the standards of Austria and Switzerland. German - like English and many other languages in the world - is a pluricentric language: it is codified in several places, the centers. Germany has its own national variety, even if Germans are not aware of it. This work deals with Germanisms, the typical linguistic features of the standard language of Germany, referred to as Ammon Teutonisms, and shows how lexicographers should treat them.
