The hallmark of this work is the examination of the legal development of domain property based on a wealth of newly uncovered primary sources from archives, an endeavor that has not been undertaken before. The focus of the presentations is on the regulations in the individual Thuringian states. The disputes and legal conflicts regarding the new regulations of domain ownership after 1918 are thoroughly investigated for each state. The actions of the former territorial lords and the agreements reflect significant differences within a geographically confined area. The result is a depiction of the evolution of domain property in Thuringia and the economic and socio-historical contexts that influenced it.
