Product details
Mani, who founded a world religion in the 3rd century AD, consciously utilized the components of writing, language, and the art of writing and books for his religion, Manichaeism, from the very beginning. The purpose was to give his religion more expressiveness, superiority, perfection, and attractiveness. In doing so, he significantly supported the missionary work aimed at spreading his religion. This work not only represents the history of decipherment and the relationships of the Manichaean script but also examines the adaptability and effectiveness of this writing system compared to other Middle Iranian writing systems through three Middle Iranian languages (Middle Persian, Parthian, Sogdian). Additionally, it highlights the calligraphic style of the Manichaean characters.
