How does one talk about love, and above all, how does one talk about talking about love? These questions are posed by two major narrative forms of the 14th century: Hadamar von Laber's "Hunt" and the anonymously transmitted "Minneburg." They each provide distinct answers within the complex constellation of contemporary love-themed poetry, granting them a unique status.

Their positions within the poetological discourse are in direct competition with one another. In particular, through various writing styles characterized by sound rhetoric, intertextuality, and metalepsis, they work on their own metalanguage that intertwines different discourses and genres. In doing so, they negotiate not only allegorical models for love but also introduce an additional meta-level into their texts.
