This study explores the strategies individuals use to establish biographical security—understood as the creation of predictability, foreseeability, and planning in the course of life. The subjects of the study were commissioned officers who are about to leave the Bundeswehr and therefore need to reorient themselves in two ways: first, regarding their employer, and second, concerning their specific job role. Through an innovative research design—a combination of standardized surveys and oral interviews—six types of security were identified, each displaying specific modes for establishing biographical security.
