Product details
After the occupation and division of Poland by the German Reich and the Soviet Union, the ethnic Germans living in Soviet-occupied Eastern Poland in 1939 were resettled by an SS resettlement commission. The largest group consisted of about 65,000 people known as the Volhynian Germans. The work describes the offices of the Third Reich involved in their resettlement, which were mostly created for this purpose, and their operations, detailing the journey of the Volhynian Germans from Eastern Poland through various types of camps in the General Government, in the Reichsgau Wartheland, on the territory of the Old Reich, and - for the vast majority of the resettled - back to Warthegau. It also examines the plans underlying the Nazis' initiative and how Nazi racial ideology had concrete effects on naturalization and the assignment of a new homeland for the resettled individuals.
