Agreements that expedite proceedings are ubiquitous in criminal proceedings. Within the framework of such an agreement, the court regularly announces a sanction range - a reduced penalty range in the event of a confession and a higher expectation of punishment for contentious further negotiations. The work outlines the conditions under which such a sanction range may be permissible. However, through a significant widening of this range and the associated pressure situation, the presiding judges often attempt to persuade the defendant to accept the court's proposal. The second part of the work examines the extent to which announcing an impermissible sanction range may constitute a criminal offense, with a particular focus on the issue of legal distortion.
