Austria is still regarded as a land of music today. This cliché has a tradition and was already used politically in the late monarchy to emphasize the uniqueness of the country and its people. This work aims to highlight the mechanisms of ideological influence on the population during the time of the Austrian corporate state. The political circumstances make this period an especially good example of such manipulation. It was one of those crisis times when the supposed musical uniqueness was used as an extraordinary feature of differentiation and was correspondingly exploited, which will be demonstrated in the section on cultural policy. Another aspect is the analysis of the musical historical narratives disseminated for this purpose. They primarily served as a visual representation of the so-called true Austrian identity at that time. Musicians, composers, and their music were adapted to the much-quoted ideal of the Austrian person. This clearly reflects the contemporary discussion about the Austrian essence, which was interpreted in various ways.
