This work represents an important step towards a systematic musicological examination of the works and methods of composer Mela Meierhans, whose creations have not yet been documented or researched. The study focuses on twenty-three vocal works created between 1999 and 2011. The combination of work analysis and quotes from numerous interviews with the composer herself and various experts allows for a nuanced perspective on the works and their biographical context. Diverse, often interdisciplinary impulses from literature, visual arts, film, dance, and architecture shape the work of this internationally active artist of Swiss origin. The connection between emotional depth and abstract beauty represents an aesthetic ideal for the composer and influences Mela Meierhans' entire compositional output.
