Throughout history, people have been concerned about their wealth. The desire to preserve certain assets beyond death and to influence heirs as much as possible remains strong. The family fideicommissum, which realized this aspiration for centuries and no longer exists today, serves as the conceptual starting point for considerations of current possibilities for lasting asset ties. The family fideicommissum is first presented from a legal historical perspective with various contemporary references, ranging from heritage protection law to constitutional law. Furthermore, the possibilities for creating special assets without inheritance rights in the areas of agricultural inheritance law, civil law, corporate law, and foundation law, particularly in family foundations, are examined.
