Multilingualism is a central characteristic of global society at the beginning of the third millennium. Multilingual communication, or the facilitation of communication across language and cultural boundaries, has become an everyday necessity. Translation studies addresses this phenomenon as an academic research discipline. This volume honors Annemarie Schmid, a pioneering translation scholar in the Austrian academic landscape, and simultaneously documents the current state of translation studies. The topics of the individual contributions cover a wide range and are divided into three chapters: Translation Studies - Self-Assertion and Demarcation, Training in Transition - Requirements and Curricula, New Questions in Translation Studies.
